Does QlikView 11 support offline use on mobile devices?

Yes, QlikView provides offline views of data for iPads. The QlikView for iOS iPad and iPhone app, available in the Apple App Store, complements QlikView on mobile browser-based access. The app provides a native user experience for QlikView AccessPoint, while extending and enhancing QlikView’s universal HTML5 approach for analytics applications. Users get all the power and flexibility of QlikView Business Discovery when connected, and when using an iPad can take advantage of a new disconnected mode for offline access. And there are no additional costs, because the app is a free download and works with any QlikView 11 server license. For more information see the QlikView on Mobile data sheet.

How to enter the AccessPoint?

The AccessPoint is a web portal and single point of entry for users that lists the documents that user has access to. The AccessPoint only links to each document, it does not host the documents themselves, that is done by the Qlikview Server and Qlikview Web Server. On the AccessPoint you can either view the documents you are authorized to see in a detailed list or as thumbnails. The AccessPoint can be accessed at http://[servername]/qlikview/index.htm

How to install the IE Plug-in?

A plug-in is a program hosted by and running inside a web browser. QlikView IE Plug-in is a freely downloadable program and can easily be distributed throughout the company.

Simply install the IE Plug-in by clicking on the install and download link on a web page starts the installation. It is necessary that the user installing the plug-in has install privileges on their own machine in order for this approach to work. A link on the AccessPoint can be provided automatically by a setting in the QlikView Management Console.

Does QlikView provide support for analyzing social media data from sites like Facebook and Twitter?

QlikView 11 does not provide direct support for analyzing social media data. However, partners have built connectors and applications that do just this, using prior versions of QlikView. For example, Industrial CodeBox built QVSource, which is a set of QlikView API connectors to a variety of web services including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Can I update a QlikView document by loading only the data that have changed?

Yes, this can be done by incremental reloads. Only new or changed data will be loaded while the other data is already available. For more information see page 394 in the Qlikview Reference Manual.

When it is possible to follow the field associations in a never ending circle through the table structure, this is called a loop. Another way of describing the phenomenon is that there are two or more different routes through the table structure between two specific fields. Loops should be avoided as far as possible since they may cause ambiguities in the way data is interpreted. In many cases loops are a result of poor database design, but in other cases they may be unavoidable. QlikView will issue a warning if it finds a loop while executing the script and force you to resolve the problem with the help of loosely coupled tables.

Can I prevent other people from seeing/changing the script?

Yes, the “Section Access” can give some people ADMIN access level while keeping other people off the script in USER access level. See Security in the Qlikview Reference Manual (page 401).

What is a synthetic key?

When any two tables share more than one common field, Qlikview creates a complex key, or synthetic key, to try and associate both tables through the combination of all of the common field between them. This takes the form of an additional table containing the shared field and an additional key field added to all involved tables. The presence of synthetic keys in a data model can cause the application to have slower response time and sometimes even consume all available resources. A few methods to avoid synthetic keys is by renaming or removing conflicting fields, by using the Qualify function or creating a link table.

How can I add a bookmark?

When using QlikView, we invariably come across some selections that we want to return to at a later time. A bookmark can be created by using the menu (Bookmarks; Add Bookmark), using the toolbar, or by pressing Ctrl + B. Another option is the Bookmark Object. This object is a sheet object that is used for displaying bookmarks for selections.

What are the differences among QlikView Server editions?

The differences are:
QlikView Server Enterprise Edition (EE) is available for customers looking to support a large number of users and integrate into enterprise environments. It includes features such as:

  • Unlimited documents
  • Integration with third party security systems
  • Server clustering

Small Business Edition (SBE) is designed to be used in smaller deployments. It has the following limitations:

  • For use only with Named and Document CALs
  • Limited to 25 Named User CALs
  • Limited to 100 Document CALs
  • No support for additional servers
  • Only supports Windows Active Directory to handle security and access control

Information Access Server (IAS) is an edition of QlikView Server designed to power public Internet sites. This

  • Includes the add-on QlikView Real Time Server
  • Is licensed for uncapped number of user but limited to one QlikView document
  • Must be set to anonymous mode only and authentication must be off
  • Requires that the QlikView server be on the public Internet and publicly accessible
  • Requires that the URL for accessing the site powered by the QlikView Server be publicly accessible
  • Requires that no QlikView client (e.g., QlikView Desktop, Internet Explorer plug-in, Ajax) can accessthe QlikView Server (all user interfaces must be built by the customer manually or with QlikView Workbench)

QlikView Extranet Server (QES) is an edition of QlikView Server designed to extend QlikView functionality to external users via an extranet. QES:

  • Requires authentication. Users must be external to the purchasing organization (customers, partners, etc.).
  • Restricts server access to the Ajax client and mobile clients
  • Provides the option to customize the QlikView application via the included QlikView Workbench
  • Supports a maximum of 3 QlikView documents
  • Supports session CALs and usage CALs only

Variabelen : eerste karakter : ‘v’ bvb: vCurrentYear
key fields : eerste karakter : ‘%’ bvb: %Customer_key
Hidden fields : eerste karakter : ‘%’ bvb: %open_closed
Expression fields : eerste karakter : ‘_’ bvb: _Budget
Groups (cycl/drill): eerste karakter : ‘>’ bvb: >Productgroep

Hidden fiels met worden gecreëerde mbv SET HidePrefix = ‘%’;

  • Elke speciale / specifieke logica (bv. Creatie extra data, …)

With annotations, QlikView users can engage each other in discussions about QlikView content. A user can create notes associated with any QlikView chart, graph, list box, or other object. Other users can then add commentary to create a threaded discussion. Users can capture snapshots of their selections and include them in the conversation so others can get back to the same place in the analysis when reviewing notes and comments. QlikView captures the state of the object (current selections), as well as who made each note and comment and when, for a lasting record of how a decision was made.

With which QlikView clients do annotations work?

Annotations work with the Ajax client and Internet Explorer plug-in. They work with QlikView Desktop only when the user opens a document on QlikView Server from within QlikView Desktop. (Annotations are server based.) Annotations work on all mobile device platforms on which QlikView supports HTML5 browsers (Apple iOS devices and Android smartphones and tablets). For this to work properly, the device must be connected to the QlikView Server in full screen mode, not small screen mode.

Can users make annotations at the document level, object level, and data level?

Users can create annotations at the object level (per chart, graph, list box, etc.), not at the document or data level — though users can access existing annotations at the document level via a toolbar option.

Collaborative sessions

Shared sessions improve the quality of business decisions for geographically-distributed and mobile users who work in teams to analyze information and make decisions. Users can jointly interact with a QlikView app in real- time―sharing selections and testing scenarios together to better uncover insights and solve problems.

A user can invite others—even those who don’t have a QlikView license—to join a session by distributing a one-time-use URL. Each participant interacts with the same QlikView app at the same time, for the duration of the session—without having to pass control from one to the other. This new capability is designed to augment a voice conversation. Collaborative sessions work on tablets and smart phones as well as desktop and laptop computers.

Benefits of collaborative sessions

  • Support conversations with the ability to jointly interact with a QlikView app in real time with other users
  • Bring decision makers together in real time
  • Improve the quality of business decisions for geographically-distributed and mobile users who work in teams to analyze information and make decisions.
  • Support co-creation; developers and/or business users can jointly build or modify QlikView apps (to the extent that it can be done in the Ajax client)
